Goals

  1. Providing awareness and establishing support structures for teachers and school districts to pursue the National Board Certification process.
  2. Creating models for collaboration in which all stakeholders can support each other from awareness through celebration.
  3. Facilitating the utilization of NBCTs as teacher leaders within organizations for improved student learning.

Goals:
AWARENESS: To increase the number of teachers that pursue Take One! and/or NBC by increasing awareness across New York State by 15%.

CANDIDATE SUPPORT: To support Take One participants and NB candidates and develop effective NBC support programs across New York State.

STATE-WIDE INITIATIVES: to replicate effective models across the state.

TEACHER LEADERSHIP/INST. OF HIGHER EDUCATION: To provide a forum for teacher leadership training, discussion and opportunity by partnering with institutions of higher education.

NATIONAL BOARD COUNCIL OF NEW YORK (NBCNY) NETWORK: To coordinate the National Board Council of New York State an affiliated network of NBPTS in order to capitalize on the expertise of National Board Certified Teachers.

Impact:
-48 NBC Cohorts Across the state within Teacher Centers and Institutions of Higher Education
-132 trained Candidate Support Providers
-Awareness Sessions occurred in all 7 regions forabout 250 of teachers participating each year.
-14% increase in NBCTs in 2011 year (even with no NYS Teacher Center funding in 2010-11) Largest class of NBCT 165
-1,302 NBCT is NYS
-Support in High needs school districts: Albany, Amsterdam, Buffalo, Cortland, Kingston, Lansingburgh, New York City, Newburgh, PoughkeepsieSchenectady, Syracuse, Troy, Westbury, Watervliet, and Yonkers,
-NBCNY Website
-Over $400,000 in grant funding supported teachers across NYS over the past 5 years.

 

Join the Network at a Regional Event:

Spring 2012: Mitchell 20 Film Premiere: “Improving Teacher Effectiveness Through National Board Certification” 

The purpose of this event is to serve as a catalyst, to inspire and provide awareness about the National Board process, to provide practitioners an opportunity to learn more about National Board and what supports/resources are available. Targeted audience: Practitioners. The Mitchell 20 is a film about a group of teachers pursuing NBC in a high needs school in Arizona.  A panel discussion following the film will focus on meeting the needs of teachers from high needs schools and as trailblazers in districts.
